New Economic Summitからの垣間見えた経営の未来

4月16日に新経済連盟主催のNew Economic Summit2013に午前中だけという限られた時間だけ参加してきましたが非常に刺激的でした。何が刺激的だったかというと、確実に時代は変わりつつある、ということを肌身で感じられたからです。

▼After Internet時代のイノベーションはカオス分散型

MITメディアラボ所長　伊藤譲一氏は、今の世界の変化について以下のように語ります。

 「イノベーションをするためにはクリエイティビティが重要です。昨今一番大きくイノベーションに影響を与えたのはインターネット。

Before Internet（BI）はゆっくり動いていて経済学者の予測はあった。ルールを守れる人が大切だった。しかしながら、After Internet（AI）はルールというのは小さなことであることがわかった。基本的に予測不可能になってきた。

 BIはインフラ創りが基本で中央集権型のイノベーション、ただ、AIはカオス型分散型。これをインターネットがプッシュした。日本人はカオス型に弱く、秩序付き。

 多くのベンチャーがインターネット領域に入ることで、スピードが上がり、世界的に参加する人も増えた。ムーアの法則もある。そして、ソフトウェアを創るコストが劇的に下がった。AIは技術中心のイノベーションとなってきている。巨額のお金がなくてもエッジからイノベーションを起こすことができる。」

 インターネットによってカオス分散型のイノベーションが当たり前になってきていると言います。その中で、鍵になるのがクリエイティビティを持つ個人。

ツイッターの創設者であるジャック・ドーシーは新たな決済サービスSquareを共同創設者と“Make Commerce Easy”というコンセプトに基づきながら、議論し協働しながら創り上げていった、とも語っていました。アイディアを持つ個人が新しい価値を創り上げていく。そして、それをスピーディーに展開できる時代に入ってきたということなのでしょう。

 ちなみに生ジャック・ドーシーを初めて見ましたが、かっこいいーとため息が出てしまう佇まいでした。(^^)

 

▼ハードウェアのイノベーション環境も変化していく

さらに伊藤氏はソフトウェアのみならずハードウェアについても大きな変革の流れを語ります。

 「オープンハードウェアという取り組みも起きている。ハードでも家電でも製造コストが下がってきている。今後ハードウェアも必ず劇的にコストが安くなり、簡単にプロトタイピングができる。バイオも同じ。

 日本ってモノづくりの日本って言われる。ただ、あまりにも大きな仮説とプランに基づいて大企業型で動き始めると破壊的な動きっていうのはできない。

メディアラボでは何にでも使っていいというお金をもらう。他の研究所にできないこと、世の中にインパクトをもたらすこと、マジカルなこと。それらの軸で評価する。MITメディアラボでは基本的な方向性は決めるが、細かいところは動きながら決めていく。

 中央集権型では正しいことをやることが必要。でも、今の時代は、権威を疑い、常識を疑い、人が考えないようなことを考え、動きながら考えていくことが重要。

パーミッションレスソサエティができないと、破壊的イノベーションが起きない。」

 ハードの世界もソフト同様の変化が起こりつつあるのは事実でしょう。日本を見ても、株式会社Cerevoのような家電ベンチャーが出てきています。Cerevo代表取締役岩佐琢磨氏は以前講演会で「ベンチャーであったとしても協力会社と連携すればコストを下げ、良い製品を創り出すことは可能。また、今はそれを世界にプロモーションし販売することもできる仕組みが整ってきている。」という趣旨のことを語っていました。

 

▼ 事業計画のないマネジメント

また、マネジメントの在り方もインターネット産業では大きく変わってきていることも垣間見れました。

 例えば、LINE株式会社代表取締役社長森川亮氏は「事業計画は作らない」と言います。

 「事業計画を作らないでやっている。日本人は計画を創るとその変更の理由を説明しなければならない。戦略も目標もあえて発表しない。

みんなもやもやする。その中で、何かやらないとまずいという空気がうまれ新しいチャレンジに向かう。

インターネットは変化が激しいので、変化に対応し、今求められていることをやることが大切。」

 唸らされます。計画は作るモノ、戦略も立案し社員に説明するモノ、という固定概念を大胆に壊してくれます。(^^)

AIの時代の中で、ツイッターやフェイスブックよりも速い成長を実現できているのは、サービスそのものの革新性もあるのですが、経営の革新性も大きな位置を占めるのでしょう。マネジメントのパラダイムもインターネットによってこれから大きく変わっていくことでしょう。

 以前から経営も変化しなければならないと問題提起し続けているのはゲーリー・ハメルです。「経営の未来」という書籍では、「今日の経営管理慣行の多くが、 1世代もしくは2世代前に企業の営みを律していたものと ほとんど変わっていないことに気づくだろう。」と揶揄しながら語っています。彼の近著「経営は何をすべきか」の一節を少し長いが紹介したいと思います。

 「今日の社会では大規模な組織が幅を利かせている。私たちは消費者としてそれらの組織を頼り、従業員として労働を提供し、投資家として依存している。ところが、往々にして失望させられたりするように思う。消費者としては冷淡な対応や、サービスよりも効率を優先するルールや方針のしわ寄せを受けることが少なくない。従業員としては、意見をたびたび無視され、創造的な熱意を無駄にされる。その上、さけようのない危機が起きると、不釣り合いなほど大きなコストを背負うように求められる。（中略）

黎明期のマネジメントを革新した人物たちと同じく、私たちも夢を持てばよい。人類の置かれた状況の改善を絶えず心待ちにし、あらゆる事業機会に飛びつく、そんな組織を夢見ればよい。変革への熱意がいたるところにはっきりとみなぎっていて、官僚主義などものともしない使命感に燃える人々が未来を切り開こうと気勢をあげる、そんな組織を夢見てもよい。恐れを知らない反逆者が常に臆病な反動主義者をやっつけ、未来の支持者が常に過去の支持者を打ち負かす、そんな組織を夢見てもよい。起死回生の痛みなしに再生を果たす組織を夢見てもよい。勇気、創意工夫、固い決意があれば、このような組織は築ける。これがいま重要なことである。」

 世界は変わりつつある中で、経営の在り方も変化する機会の窓が開いてきているのではないでしょうか。

 

▼Agilityの重要性

では、そういう時代の鍵は何か。多くの経営者が語っていたのは「Agility」です。変化に対峙し機敏に動ける力ということでしょう。

 google上級副社長であり、Androidの生みの親のアンディー・ルービンは「市場が変化するのでそれに対応し変わらなければならない」と言います。Androidも最初はデジカメ向けプラットフォームとして開発していたそうですが、「OSのコストは右肩下がりと予測できた。また、オープンな領域、Multemediaに対応できるOSがなかったので、ここにアンドロイドをポジショニングした。」そうです。

 その際の大胆な動きとしてユニークなのは、事業をリポジショニングするだけではなく、経営チームも大幅に入れ替え、経営チームもリデザインしてしまうのです。この決断まで5ヵ月という短期間でした。そして、それがスイートスポットにはまり、成長につながります。

 まさに「Agility」の重要性を示す出来事でしょう。

 

 カオス分散型イノベーション、事業計画のないマネジメント、Agility、学びの多いい刺激的なサミットでした。(^^)
